Leading Women Breakfast on Jan 19
If you live in or near Rhode Island, you might interested in checking out the Leading Women breakfast series. The next event on January 19th is sponsored by Partridge, Snow, & Hahn and will feature me along with friend Robin Squibb from the Granny Squibb Iced Tea Company. We'll be speaking about daily habits that help keep us on track to run successful businesses. Obviously everyone has up days and down days, but I have found a few tried & true things that get me going in the morning and help me stay focused throughout the day (sneak preview: chocolate really does do wonders for concentration). I'm looking forward to sharing and also meeting other attendees!

Whiteout at SPHQ
Today at SPHQ (yes that is short for sexy period headquarters and we will be hashtagging it) we inaugurated our office with our first EVER theme day. Memorial Day has come and gone, and we have nothing to fear while wearing white when we are sporting our Sexy Period undies, so Ramya declared today a WHITEOUT. Any suggestions for next week's theme day??

Sexy Period Office Warming Party!
We’ve been in our office for about 3 weeks now, and we were definitely over due for an office warming party. So we put our aprons (and party hats) on and started baking up a storm to make some super cute cupcakes to show off our brand new office!
the baking begins...

Upcoming Events
Hi friends! We're gearing up for a fun next couple weeks as we exhibit and speak at several events in New England. If you live in the area, stop by and say hi!
On April 27th, Julie will be speaking on a panel at the Campus Engagement Initiative sponsored by the Brown Alumni Club of Boston. Excited to catch up with Brownies in Boston!
On May 3rd, we'll be exhibiting at the Rhode Island Business Expo from 9am-3:30pm at the RI Convention Center. There is a special "Entrepreneurial Zone" so look for us among the innovative, super cool companies.
On May 6th, Julie will be speaking on a panel at Bentley University's Social Media Conference in Waltham, MA.
On May 7th, we will be exhibiting at Brown University's 10th Annual Breeze Against Wheeze. Race proceeds go to help fund the Asthma Camp at Hasbro Children's Hospital. We are donating two pairs of undies to race winners, so if you're looking for an excuse to get in shape, this is the perfect incentive!
After the Breeze Against Wheeze event in the morning, we'll be exhibiting the evening of May 7th at the "Our Heros" Fashion Show fundraiser to benefit the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Check out the flyer below for more info!

Julie presents at Pecha Kucha
On Monday I presented at Pecha Kucha! Watch below for more on what life is like as a period underwear executive!
Style Week Providence!
Style Week Providence was absolutely amazing. Not just because of the other fabulous accessory designers (check out this week’s Friday Fashion Find!), the extravagant runway shows, or the eye-catching showcase our Sexy Period models put on (though hey, none of those hurt)…but mostly because of the wonderful enthusiasm and excitement we got from all of you!!! The Sexy Period table was bubbling with women delightedly eyeing, holding, and learning about Sexy Period panties, chatting to each other and to us about how they were going to purchase a pair for themselves, their sisters, daughters, and friends! And we’re right there with them in our excitement. Here are some Style Week pictures to tide you (and us) over until our limited 500 pair Preview Sale Release only three very short days away!!
Women were ecstatic to learn how soft Sexy Period panties are!

We're getting ready...
The Sexy Period team is brimming with excitement about our Style Week presentations coming up! Of course we’ve been hard at work to make sure that our accessory display is just as glamorous as you are (we know, we’re shooting for the stars). Just a few things you’ve got to look forward to: pretty pink model pedestals, picture-adorned Preview Sale cards, and our smiling faces (what more could you want?)!
Also, a BIG thank you goes to Johnson & Wales student Christine for all of her help on everything from printing to designing Preview Sale cards (pick them up at our table this week!) to building boxes.
Remember! Come to Style Week Providence at the Biltmore 3:30-6:30 Wednesday-Friday to stop by our Accessory Showcase, and be sure to be there Friday at 5 for our special live presentation!!
Cue Style Week sneak peek…

Friday Fashion Find 10/1: Zack Lo shoes
Caitlin and I headed North last night for Boston Fashion Week and we had the opportunity to meet shoe designer Zack Lo. He comes across as a friendly, modest designer who genuinely cares about making products that are comfortable + eye catching. I tried on a pair of black 4″ heels and can confirm that, not only do they make you feel like a million bucks, they are amazingly comfy.

Friday Fashion Find 9/10: Victoire by Aparna Dasgupta
Congratulations to the talented Aparna Dasgupta on the launch of her new line! A friend and advisor to us, Aparna has designed a beautiful collection for autumn/winter 2010. The Victoire dress, pictured below, is made from silk organdy and features antique brass buttons.

If you happen to be in the New York area on Friday…let’s just say, we’re jealous. It’s the second annual Fashion’s Night Out with special events in over 1000 stores. Several stores are hosting events featuring couture designers and some have live music while others are serving appetizers. Catch Aparna at the boutique AvaMaria located at 107 Crosby St, New York.
StyleWeek Providence
StyleWeek Providence was last week and I jumped at the chance to attend. Thanks to all the designers and sponsors for their role in enriching the RI fashion scene. It’s great to be in a city that celebrates innovative designers. On Thursday I went with my girls Kristin and Laurel. Our red carpet pose:

Loved this yellow silk taffeta dress by Nirva. The picture quality isn’t great, but you can see the bottom hem is silk velvet. I met designer Nirva Derbekyan at the after party and she is super sweet.

Thanks to Kasey and Maddy for joining me on the red carpet Friday night for a fun night out:

The second show on Friday was by Maya Luz who was a contestant on the last season of Project Runway. Her show was titled “Creature” and featured animal inspired materials such as this fur collar:

Our first talk and my new RISD tote
Thank you to everyone who’s been so amazingly supportive. We could not be where we are today if it were not for all of you! The fabric testing results are looking good, so we’ll be pitching to buyers in early February for a Fall 2010 launch in stores. Wish us luck!
Last Thursday we shared our story and some tips as part of the Business Plan Writing workshop alongside Sixcia Devine (RI business plan competition judge, regional director of the RI small business development center, and accomplished female entrepreneur extraordinaire) in the BUILD workshop series at RISD. For those of you who are interested, these were our four major points:
1. Talk to everyone – Do your homework. It’s all about market research and getting concrete numbers.
2. Investors have bad imaginations – Ask them to imagine how your product will work/look? Not gonna happen. Make a prototype!
3. It’s all about the people – Simply put, this company would not be in existence without all the people who have helped us along the way.
4. Be positive – If you don’t believe in yourself, no one will.
What do you say entrepreneurs? Are these pretty essential? Feel like we missed something super important? Don’t by shy, write a comment!
To thank us, RISD gave us each a box of sinful, sinful chocolate and a black RISD tote! We’ve both been proudly sporting our snazzy new bags around town as if we need another matching item to look like we deliberately coordinate our outfits (It really is always a coincidence that we match). After showing off my new acquisition to a RISD graphic designer last night, she told me that Brown students sport new and clean looking RISD totes while actual RISD students carry battered and “improved upon” RISD totes. When I get a chance, I’m going to line my new, clean, unmodified tote with lace trim. How about that for an upgrade?
Champagne toast
Last Friday Emily hosted a champagne toast in our honor, as we recently received additional funding which allows us to work full-time on Eulie! Kristin and Sharon (my wonderful housemates pictured below) made the underwear-themed cake, which was accompanied by chocolate covered strawberries, brownies and cookies.

Eunice and I cut the cake together as if we were at a wedding (we spend so much time together that we practically are married, although Eunice’s boyfriend Tai-Sen might get in the way of that actually happening). The right hand photo below shows me with Emily, the hostess-with-the-mostess!

Eulie Social

On Tuesday, October 6th we held a social event for Eulie advisors. Thanks to everyone for continually giving us advice and support as we work to make this dream a reality. Check out the photos below (note the cupcake frosting artwork)!
